The term ‘Sustainable Development’ was defined in a 1987 report titled OUR COMMON FUTURE by the BRUNDTLAND COMMISSION as ‘development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’. ‘Needs’ were defined as being environmental, economical, and social.
