EMBODIED ENERGY

The term ‘Embodied Energy’ (or Embodied Carbon) refers to the energy consumed by (and carbon emissions resulting from) all the processes that are related to the lifecycle of a building, including; energy consumed to create the buliding from the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, and assembly; energy consumed in refurbishing and maintaining the building over the course of its lifespan; and energy consumed in disposal of the building; but excluding energy consumed as a result of the operation of the building (Operational Energy).
