CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES
The CODE FOR SUSTAINABLE HOMES (referred to as ‘the code’) is a sustainable building standard and environmental assessment method for new homes that was developed by the BRE for the UK Government in 2006. The code become operational in 2007 as a voluntary standard and was mandatory in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland if it was a required by a local authority’s local plan. The code was due to become mandatory for all new homes from 2016, but it was withdrawn by the UK government in 2015 with a suggestion that aspects of the Code would be consolidate into the Building Regulations. In 2019 the UK government announced that by 2025 it would introduce an new national sustainable building standard for new build homes called the FUTURE HOMES STANDARD.
